All Nicki wants to do is run her vintage clothing store with her best friend Evan Owenby, and possibly get a date with the smoking hot ER doctor that was at her bed side when she woke up. If only all the ghosts would leave her alone. She's become a ghost magnet. As if seeing them isn't bad enough, they also want her to help them. When a friend and fellow shop owner is murdered, Nicki's determined to bring the killer to justice. As she quickly spirals into the world of voodoo, Nicki soon finds out that not all ghosts are as friendly as Casper.
After reading DEAD GIRLS ARE EASY, the first thing I did was get online to see what other books Terri Garey has out. As much as I tried to deny it in the numerous searches I did, I finally had to admit to myself that Ms. Garey was a debut author and I wasn't going to be able to read any more books from the whimsical and witty author anytime soon. It was quite crushing at the time. I fell in love with DEAD GIRLS ARE EASY. It reminds me a bit of the TV show Ghost Whisperer, only this had been kicked up a whole lot of notches. Nicki Styx is an intriguing character that pulls you into her world, and her problems. With enough loose ends to entice you into wanting to continue the series, this fun and engrossing read is sure to entertain till the early hours of the morning. An excellent debut by an obviously talented author.
Book Summary
There's something about almost dying that makes a girl rethink her priorities. Take Nicki Styx—she was strictly goth and vintage, until a brush with the afterlife leaves her with the ability to see dead people.
Before you can say boo, Atlanta's ghosts are knocking at Nicki's door. Now her days consist of reluctantly cleaning up messes left by the dearly departed, leading ghouls to the Light . . . and one-on-one anatomy lessons with Dr. Joe Bascombe, the dreamy surgeon who saved her life. All this catering to the deceased is a real drag, especially for a girl who'd rather be playing hanky-panky with her hunky new boyfriend . . . who's beginning to think she's totally nuts. But things get even more complicated when a friend foolishly sells her soul to the devil, and Nicki's new gift lands her in some deep voodoo.
As it turns out for Nicki Styx, death was just the beginning.
