Mick is set to interview an American Idol hopeful at the same time he discovers Murtz has suddenly left Chicago for a villa in St. Barts. After someone almost runs over Mick before he leaves Chicago, he begins to wonder if the trip to St. Barts is worth it.
St. Barts is a sunny, relaxing dream world of beautiful women and lots of sand. Mick meets a mysterious woman who happens to be dating Murtz. She spends time with Mick when Murtz cancels a date. But before he can discover more about this woman, she disappears. Mick figures out that she's a cop investigating missing persons.
After only one day on St. Barts, Mick's rental car blows up. Then Murtz goes berserk before Mick even starts to ask questions about the missing women. Murtz's lawyer sets up a new interview, not with Murtz, but with himself. What starts out as a simple interview escalates into close calls, murder, and can be called anything but dull.
ST. BARTS BREAKDOWN is an intriguing story of the rock 'n' roll scene and one man's spiraling downfall, hooked on drugs and crazed to the point that he may be capable of anything to keep himself at the top of his world. If I were to have seen this novel in the bookstore and looked at the jacket, I would not have purchased it based on the storyline. However, I would like to tell you that if that had been the case, I would have missed a well-written story with intriguing characters that kept me turning the pages until the conclusion. Don Bruns writes a fascinating mystery. I'd be happy to read other stories in the Mick Sever mystery series, and I recommend you read ST. BARTS BREAKDOWN today.
