Leona Hewitt finally receives the promotion she's been working for -- vice president of a Washington, D.C., bank. But her very first task creates a quandary. Her boss made it pretty clear he expects her to rubber-stamp approval for a conversion in the way the company operates. Unfortunately, as Leona delves into the situation, it becomes clear there's something wrong with this company and its leaders. In fact, it seems that people may have been killed to make sure this deal goes through, and Leona could be a target if she follows her instincts and stops the conversion.

Leona has built an interesting life, working successfully at the bank and using her money to organize and fund a non- profit that worked to save elephants in South Africa. The man who handles the delicate financial challenges of getting her dollars to work in the corrupt atmosphere of South Africa may be the only person who can help her out of the challenge she's facing in her usually stable banking career. But Mike Anderson ran into trouble on his last trip to South Africa and has disappeared.

Buick gives an interesting blend of two very different worlds in DELICATE CHAOS. The switch between Mike's brutal world in South Africa and the equally brutal world of corporate crime encourages readers to see the similarities. I like Buick's no-nonsense writing style and the feeling that he thinks his readers are smart enough to grasp the financial complexities that are an important part of this story. A good read.
