After being left at the altar, Meredith Merriweather vows to write a guide about rakes to prevent other innocents from suffering. She undertakes her research seriously, using a courtesan and a merry widow to prove her suppositions. Her newest research centers on Alexander Lamont, a rogue who swears he's reformed into a respectable gentleman -- a gentleman such as Meredith's beau, who's dependable and a stickler for convention; the man she plans to marry. However, Meredith doesn't believe Alexander's reformation one bit and wants to prove the notorious rogue a liar.

Succumbing to blackmail from his father, the Earl of Harford, Alexander Lamont swears off womanizing and carousing (at least temporarily) until his father calms down. However, it's hard to keep the mask in place when a beautiful redhead falls from the sky into his arms. Trying to maintain his celibacy should not be this hard. Since Alexander needs his bank account back under his control, he has to obey his father's dictates. And his father's newest order -- marry Miss Merriweather.

Acknowledging his attraction to Meredith, Alexander takes the challenge and begins pursuit, while trying to oust his competition. Schemes abound and while matching wits with each other, Alexander and Meredith find themselves falling in love. Complications arise and Alexander must prove his mettle.

Ms. Caskie pens a sparkling Regency romance filled with fun. The characters are delightful with the wonderful eccentric great-aunts proving vast entertainment.
