Even though her friends agree that the high drama of these crushes and break-ups seem a bit too high school for people approaching 30, they share a social network that throws parties every weekend leading up to the winter holidays, and emotions escalate with each new encounter with Helen and her passive aggressive games. Gus wants revenge, but she's pushing her other friends away in her pursuit. Alone and moping in the same one-bedroom apartment she's lived in since college, Gus realizes that it may finally be time to grow up, but can she manage without the support of her friends?
This book is for everyone who has ever suffered a break-up with their best girl friend. The heartbreak and betrayal from losing your best friend to arguments, life changes or growing apart can be much worse than losing a boy friend. Megan Crane has captured two perspectives of women's friendships brilliantly in this novel -- the love-you-like-a- sister friendship that you hope will last forever and the more complex relationship with the manipulative, jealous mean-girl you may never trust or understand. The roller- coaster emotions are completely believable, as is the inspiring strength of the true friendships. With gals you'll want to hang out with and guys you'll want to make out with, this novel is the perfect read for re-examining and appreciating the friends in your life. A highly recommended and original chick-lit novel.
Book Summary
Just a few months shy of her 30th birthday, Gus Curtis finally feels like she has it all: a strong career, great friends, and a wonderful boyfriend. But all of this comes crashing down when Gus discovers Nate, her "Mr. Right," hooking up behind her back with her so-called "friend" Helen. Soon it seems like the life Gus has worked to make so adult looks a lot like the one she already had as a teenager, and Gus is left with more questions than answers: Can she win Nate back before she turns 30 alone? (And if so, does she really want him?) Is Helen really as devious and manipulative as she seems, or, worse, is Gus more like her frenemy than she ever imagined? And is she ever going to grow up? With the clock ticking down to her birthday, Gus discovers that sometimes the best thing about best-laid plans is trashing them altogether.
