"This delightful fantasy romance is light and funny, as well as being sometimes dark."

Stranded in limbo, Derek de Molay, once a soldier of the Knights Templar, has only to put his rage behind him to enter Heaven. But Derek is as stubborn in death as he ever was in life, and so he refuses Paradise, preferring to remain a Warrior Angel in Purgatory than embrace and forgive the God he feels betrayed and abandoned him.

Proudly, Derek dons the holy armor given to those who fight the archfiends from Hell, driving them back into the pit and keeping humanity safe. Centuries have passed and nothing much has changed for Derek when he's called upon to return to earth in mortal form to protect a human woman. In the almost thousand years since Derek last walked the earth, there have been a quite a few changes. But Derek is as stubborn in life as he was in death, and he sets about performing his new duties with all the diligence and fortitude that is his nature.

Broker Rachel Duncan finds herself between a rock and a hard place when she falls under the spell of a rich, handsome client and finds herself willing to break a few rules for him. Unbeknownst to Rachel, her sexy client is a higher-up in the legions of Hell and is using Rachel to send Wall Street, and the rest of the world, into a financial tailspin. Rachel is caught tight in the devil's web and Derek is called upon to untangle the mess she's made of things. While Derek is focused on fighting evil and playing by the harsh rules of honor set out for him, he's slowly being caught in an invisible web of his own, but not one spun by demons. It's Rachel who's slowly ensnaring him, causing him to throw caution to the wind and finally open up his heart to the promise of a brighter future and the love of a good woman. Derek's weakness is a powerful weapon for the minions of Hell, and they will do everything in their power to exploit it.

This is the first book in a fun new series by veteran fantasy writer Margaret Weis and her daughter Lizz. Sometimes light and funny, sometimes dark, it's definitely aimed at the romance rather than the fantasy audience. I recommend WARRIOR ANGEL for the paranormal romance reader, but not as a crossover for the hardcore fantasy crowd.

Book Summary

Once a dedicated soldier of the Knights Templar, Derek de Molay was betrayed and killed. So instead of an eternity in Heaven, he has decided to battle the Dark Angels of Hell. But as the war between good and evil rages, he is summoned back to the mortal realm to protect a woman standing too close to the edge of darkness.

Rachel Duncan has never felt this way before. A mysterious man is intent on seducing her with expensive gifts and trips on his private plane, yet it is Derek, a breathtaking stranger, who tugs at her heart. With him, there is laughter, light . . . and love. But Derek tells an impossible, insane story, though deep in her heart she knows it to be true. Now Derek and Rachel must race against time to save the mortal souls of mankind . . . and each other.
