While gathering materials for her course, Suzanne comes across an article accompanied by a painting that takes her breath away. She recognizes it as one of the paintings she helped save over 30 years ago. But the caption reads "destroyed." Taking note of the author's name, Roberto Balducci, Suzanne must contact him to find out more about his research.
Once Suzanne arrives in Florence, she meets with Roberto Balducci. However, he's the wrong Roberto -- he's the son of the author. Suzanne explains about her search for this particular painting, and he sets up a meeting with his father. The discussion between Suzanne and Roberto's father goes well, but as she's ready to leave, he says Stefano's name directly to her. This sets her on edge. Is there a connection between Stefano and the elder Balducci? Does he know where Stefano is? Will she ever find the painting?
THE LOST MADONNA by Kelly Jones is an intriguing mystery with a passionate love story. Rich in art history and wonderful characters, this book has the same finesse and style as her previous novel, THE SEVENTH UNICORN. I anxiously await her next book.
