Detective Mia Mitchell is back on duty after a gunshot wound. Her boss pairs her with Reed to investigate this killer who sets fires to his victims' residences. Uncomfortable with each other at first, Mia and Reed grudgingly discover respect for each other, comfort in each other and love for each other. However, each has so much baggage that they feel it's best to walk away as soon as their investigation is completed. An additional complication is their differing philosophy on what makes a person commit these murders.

Mia has escaped death several times. The killer wants to make sure that her mortality is a sure thing this time. Reed wants to make sure that doesn't happen.

I could not wait to read this book. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed and I wasn't. Karen Rose has the creative talent to capture not only the pain and fear of the victims, but even more so the grotesque sickness of the killer. Her characters are solid and emotional, the plot is riveting and the suspense is like a rollercoaster gone wild, building and building speed until it finally stops and all you can say is "wow."
