Top Navy SEAL, Hawk McMillan, assigned to the CIA as a secret operative, is so deep undercover no one can save him if he's discovered. Hawk has become a local Macedonian kingpin's newest best friend. He hates the man and everything he stands for. Drugs, guns and women enslaved for men's sick needs are Dragan Dilaver's passion. Hawk would like nothing more than to kill the scum with his own hands, but his mission means the kingpin lives -- for the time being. He must discover the location of a special shipment airlifted from the United States among other arms shipments for UN peacekeeping missions. His assignment is to retrieve this special shipment before Dilaver gets his hands on it.

Hawk is always aware of his surroundings. He memorizes markers on locations and distance traveled and always searches for escape routes. He loves to work alone, but in Macedonia, part of his mission is to contact a tracker. Before he gets the chance, his tracker surprises him with an attack, leaving him unconscious. She also leaves her calling card, which royally ticks him off. However, Hawk is very good at what he does and turnabout is fair play as he returns the favor.

Amber Hutchens is a CIA agent planted in Velesta for four years. She runs a café catering to UN peacekeepers looking for American hamburgers, as well as to the local citizens in search of American dishes. Amber sells more than burgers; she sells information. Dilaver comes to her for intel about the UN's endeavors and anyone else who's done business with Amber. She knows she's to track for Hawk, and after her little trick on him and his retaliation, she's convinced he's very capable in many areas, especially in more intimate settings. However, work must be the focus.

Amber has another side business. She and another woman rescue young enslaved females from Dilaver's Kafenas, where the sex-slave girls are sold. They steal them away to various safe houses, providing fake passports to get them out of the country, so they can start new lives once they've healed.

The more Hawk learns from Amber, the more he likes her, desires her. Amber would love nothing more than to put a bullet in Dilaver's brain for the torture, humiliation and pain he inflicts upon the young girls, and while Hawk agrees with her, his mission does not include killing Dilaver. Amber comes to realize that their objectives may be different, but their feelings are the same. They both care immensely for the well-being of the young women.

Hawk and Amber can't resist the sensual pull toward each other. As danger escalates, their feelings intensify and solidify, creating an impressive team effort to achieve both their goals. Hawk's cover is blown; action and danger snowball.

THE HUNTER delivers another military action-packed story with heart and emotion. Ms. Low continues to introduce us to strong, caring heroes and sensitive, daring heroines.
