Lady Juliet Pervill was sure Lord Barksdale was going to propose, until Lord Harrington ruined her in the eyes of the ton while he sought revenge for her father's misdeed. Seamus McCurren has worked for the Foreign Office for quite some time deciphering French codes. But when Lady Juliet is brought in to help him, he's extremely irritated and not afraid to let it be known. Naturally, Juliet is put off by Seamus' attitude and is quick to provoke him.

Juliet is not Seamus' type, but for some reason, he's unable to keep his hands off her. And the more he gets to know her, the more she bothers him. Juliet knows Seamus doesn't like her, but she can't figure out why he keeps kissing her. She's not sure of her feelings for him either, but knows she likes his kisses.

When Seamus tries to resign from the Foreign Office, since he can't work with a woman, Juliet is let go instead. Mad that Seamus has cost her this job, she decides to work on her own and ends up getting kidnapped. When she escapes, instead of reporting the incident to the Foreign Office, she runs to Seamus. After sharing the night together, circumstances force Seamus into asking Juliet to marry him. Juliet refuses, knowing he was coerced and this is not what he really wants.

At her mother's country home, Juliet admits her love for Seamus. She also figures out who's behind her kidnapping and the espionage. She rushes back to London to gather more evidence and to warn the Foreign Office. Realizing he loves Juliet, Seamus rushes to keep her safe, but will he reach her in time?

THE LADY'S CODE is a very exciting story full of mystery and suspense. Seeing the love develop between Juliet and Seamus was amusing, and I adored Felicity and Christian and the other good friends. I enjoyed this story and recommend it highly.
