The next day, Campbell is shocked when she finds out that Hazel is dead. Was she asleep or dead when Campbell peeked into the bedroom? Campbell calls Doug and asks him what he thinks. Doug tells her to leave it alone as Hazel was a drunk and took a lot of medication. Of course, Campbell can't leave it alone.
As Campbell starts to put the clues together, she wonders if Kenneth, Doug's brother might have something to do with this. The detective on the case has discovered that Hazel was murdered. As much as Doug tells her to stay out of it, Campbell will not stop. Now things are really getting strange as Campbell has been a victim of someone writing on her windows to stay out of it. Could this be from the murderer?
Campbell discovers some very strange relationships in Jake Miller's life. It seems that he and Hazel had adopted a daughter that was his from a different woman, Rosie. This leads Campbell back to the boy screaming outside of Hazel's house... He's Jake's grandson. Could he have been the one to kill Hazel?
Peggy O'Neal Peden writes a book about an old country singer who had
died and left many secrets behind. Peden also combines mystery and a
little romance. I really enjoyed the backstory of Jake Miller's life and
how his actions affected different people in his life, and after. I love
country music, so this story really had me from the beginning. Peden
shows that women can be strong and don't always need a man to help
them out. Campbell is a very strong and capable woman. Yes, at times
she was upset, but she continued on until the crime was solved. I would
really like to see more books featuring Campbell and Doug. The
weather is getting cold; great time to pick up
Book Summary
Contrary to popular belief, not everyone in Nashville is an aspiring country music star. Campbell Hall, for one, just wants to get her travel agency off the ground and move on from a break-up. But when she gets the opportunity to visit the mansion of mysterious country icon Jake Miller, she jumps at the chance. After all, who knows what clues are lurking around the long-dead star’s last home?
But as Campbell pokes around, she discovers more than a few sequined suits and priceless memorabilia. She finds Hazel Miller, Jake’s widow, quietly resting in a bedroom on the main floor. But Hazel might just be dead quiet. And Campbell might just be the last person to have seen her alive.
Juggling the twisty plots of high-profile country stars with her blossoming business—not to mention the tattered remains of her love life—Campbell thinks she’s got everything figured out. But when the danger becomes personal, she must uncover a killer who will stop at nothing to get what they want—or face the music.
With Your Killin’ Heart, award-winning author Peggy O’Neal Peden has given us a witty debut full of Nashville charm and generous heart.
