Mitchell Zuckoff does a masterful job telling the story of the men there that fateful day. You come to really respect and appreciate what these men and men like them sacrifice for us every day. 13 HOURS is not a political statement but a true story seen by the men that were there, the men that were injured and suffered the loss of their brothers. The average person cannot understand the closeness these men feel for each other and the magnitude of their loss. Not to mention the families that lost sons, fathers, brother and husbands. You can feel the pain in the description of each person and the respect felt for each and every one of them by each other. The Ambassador, Chris Steven, had spent his life trying to help bring a better life to the people of the Middle East and Libya.
When I picked up 13 HOURS I was unable to put it down. I laughed at the antics of some of the men and teared up when reading about Tyron Woods never being able to see his sons grow up. America lost so much that day and most people don't even realize on how many levels it happened. Demonstrators do not carry rocket propelled grenades and mortars and America does not let the murder of its Ambassador and three citizens go unpunished, or at least we never have before.
Upon finishing 13 HOURS I wanted one thing more than anything else, justice for Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Tyron Woods, Glen Doherty and Sean Smith. 13 HOURS by Mitchell Zuckoff and the Annex Security Team is a moving, intense book told by the men that were there that horrible day of September 11, 2012 and should be read by everyone.
Book Summary
The harrowing, true account from the brave men on the ground who fought back during the Battle of Benghazi.
13 HOURS presents, for the first time ever, the true account of the events of September 11, 2012, when terrorists attacked the US State Department Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA station called the Annex in Benghazi, Libya. A team of six American security operators fought to repel the attackers and protect the Americans stationed there. Those men went beyond the call of duty, performing extraordinary acts of courage and heroism, to avert tragedy on a much larger scale. This is their personal account, never before told, of what happened during the thirteen hours of that now-infamous attack.
13 HOURS sets the record straight on what happened during a night that has been shrouded in mystery and controversy. Written by New York Times bestselling author Mitchell Zuckoff, this riveting book takes readers into the action-packed story of heroes who laid their lives on the line for one another, for their countrymen, and for their country.
13 HOURS is a stunning, eye-opening, and intense book--but most importantly, it is the truth. The story of what happened to these men--and what they accomplished--is unforgettable.
