Bee has been receiving text messages from a secret admirer whom she refers to as "Friendly". She has now become better acquainted with both Nicolas Reiner and the sexy neighbour at 311 North. She received the most wonderful anonymous gift: the beautiful red designer purse she had been lusting after for a week is now hers. She likes to think her admirer is Nicolas; her beautiful purse is very expensive and he's rich. Belinda Carter finally has something that is not a cheap copy; she is over the moon, and when she leaves her condo for work, she feels like she finally belongs. During the ride down in the condo's elevator, Bee meets the elegant aging escort, Lona LaMarre, who comments on her handbag and says that's how it all started for her: a rich man who bought her an expensive gift; Bee says it's nothing of the sort, it's merely a reward for doing a good deed.

Bee leaves for work, feeling confident and chic, even though it's raining. Just outside the condo complex, she sees her bad boy neighbour, tattooed and scarred Hawke, on his motorcycle. He doesn't fail to notice her beautiful red purse, he can appreciate quality; after all he rides a Harley. Their fingers touch briefly and it's electric. He is not boyfriend material, not like Nicolas, whom she will marry. Hawke is more like her father, a biker, someone who goes for short-term relationships. Still, Bee cannot help falling under Hawke's sexy spell; he offers to give her a ride on his bike, but she opts for the bus instead. She has to get to work quickly, she cannot be late. This is her big day, when she will go from temp to full-time employee, the day her dreams will come true.

In SINFUL REWARDS 2, Bee's beautiful red designer purse almost becomes a secondary character: it's a metaphor for Bee's view on life. Solid, dependable, reliable, yet fashionable: what she is, what she aims for. It represents a better life, money, and a boyfriend who can give her all that, in addition to love. I love Bee: she's a dreamer, a romantic but conservative and daring at the same time. SINFUL REWARDS 2 delves deeper into the minds and motivations of the characters, we get to meet Bee's mother, and learn a bit more about enigmatic Lona. There's also a fabulous, very cinematic sexy dream sequence that illustrates Bee's inner conflict about Nicolas and Hawke.

Of course, a cliff-hanger was to be expected, but I never thought it would be such a spectacular one! Ms. Sax knows her way around novellas and short stories better than anyone else, and this series promises to exceed my expectations, which were very high to begin with. Cynthia Sax raises the bar very high with SINFUL REWARDS 2!
