Virgil appears to be genuinely good, a character the reader can look up to. He is brave and tenacious, determined to do the right thing. Madeline is more of a wild card, but she sure seems to be a good person caught in bad circumstances. She is genuinely afraid and worried. The other secondary characters are not terribly memorable barring the main antagonists, those are hard to forget-the author does a wonderful job of making the reader hate the antagonists.
The events are fast-paced. The reader will appreciate the view into mafia life and actions. The book is filled with twists and surprises, the ending will leave the reader satisfied. THE DEVIL'S ODDS is perfect for readers who appreciate mystery.
