The small town of Green, Louisiana, is trying to rebuild after a devastating tornado blew away homes, churches, buildings and took the lives of several people. In the midst of the tornado, Lois and Chris Craig were getting married. Almost one year later, they are trying to settle into a home that Chris has moved onto Lois' property after the tornado took her cottage. Remodeling the old farmhouse and living in it at the same time is becoming a real struggle.

However, the true struggle comes when the announcement is made that the state has decided to close the schools in Green at the end of the school year and send Green's students to schools in other towns over an hour away. The state sights poor test scores, fewer students graduating and budget cuts as the reasons for the closure. Of course, everyone in Green is furious over this announcement.

Lois is the editor of the local newspaper and the town turns to her for help in getting this decision reversed. She runs several articles and garners plenty of community support, but the local school board says their hands are tied on the issue. A couple of "experts" have been hired by the state to study the situation and battle lines are drawn between them and the town. The "experts" don't know the town of Green!

Molly and Tammy, former Green High School students and employees at the newspaper, decide to organize a "walk" to the capitol in Baton Rouge to express their concern over the proposed closings and try to convince the legislature to reconsider. Will their efforts be enough, and will they make it in time?

This story has a host of supporting characters who are warm and whimsical. It's an inspirational story about building relationships and receiving unexpected blessings from them.
