Getting tangled up in little white lies is the focus of Debra Moffitt's third Pink Locker Society book, THE FOREVER CRUSH, and she delivers this story with lots of humor and plenty of compassion as well.
Long time crush, Forest, has finally asked Jemma to be his girlfriend, but just his pretend one. He's tired of being constantly pursued by the girls at school, and thinks that if he and Jemma pretend to be a couple, he can finally get a few minutes peace. Being the sweet girl she is, Jemma goes along with the ruse, but finds herself in an awkward position when she realizes that she really does have a thing for Forest!
Jemma knows she can't tell her friends the truth, so she slips a letter into the Pink Locker, hoping for an answer that will solve her problem of what to do about her new feelings. But will the society be around long enough to answer back? Someone has it out for the PLS, and is determined to see them shut down once and for all. The girls, and their mentors, are frantic to find the devious culprit.
The Pink Locker Society books are a great series, directed at tween girls, 11 to 13. Moffitt addresses the crucial subjects, like the first kiss, the first crush, etc., with this charming series, and it was a pleasure to find them sweetly innocent, but informative as well.
Book Summary

A mysterious someone keeps sending Jemma, Kate, and Piper threatening messages, but they won't stop the Pink Locker Society. They know the girls at their middle school need them. Who else will answer their questions about everything from bras to boys? And, the truth is, Jemma has just (secretly) submitted a question of her own. It's about Forrest, her forever crush. He asked her to be his pretend girlfriend and she said yes! Jemma promised to tell no one the truth about their relationship, but can she keep it from everyone, including her best friend, Kate? Not that Kate seems to have noticed - she's suddenly obsessed with whether people think she's fat. Beautiful Piper doesn't need to worry about that. She just wants to know if Forrest and Jemma have kissed. But does a real kiss with your pretend boyfriend still count?
