A series of seemingly unrelated events is heating up the town of Eureka. Zoe is home on a brief visit and is helping Henry, Fargo, and Julia test theories in remote viewing. The details from the government's Stargate program have been recently declassified and Henry thinks it will be an excellent exercise for Eureka High School students to open their minds to the more speculative side of science. Zoe is a natural, succeeding close to 100 % of the time. Sheriff Jack Carter is skeptical to say the least, but is glad for something to help take Zoe's mind off her problems with Lucas.

General Mansfield is throwing his weight around Global Dynamics again, this time with a conflicted scientist in tow. Dr. Aircom Graves has been working on something called the Brain Box, able to read and store the final memories from the minds of the newly dead. The box currently contains classified information harvested from an agent who died in a car crash before he could be debriefed. Dr. Graves intended his invention as an aid to the authorities when solving murders, not as another tool for government covert ops.

When Lucas is diagnosed with a shadowy, insubstantial (but life threatening) brain tumor soon after he helps develop a translation program for Dr. Graves' invention, Sheriff Carter is certain the Brain Box is involved. Add in the residents of Eureka showing signs of heightened paranoia, and the widow of the dead agent showing up to take over Global Dynamics, and the scene is set for a complex set of problems that will need all Jack's wiliness to untangle.

Cris Ramsay has penned an enjoyable visit to Eureka, weaving in many of the series' characters. Simply through the nature of scheduling tv shows and publishing, some of the book's events are based on story lines that the show has gone beyond, but it is still a decent read, and a way to pass a pleasant few hours.
