Jake Malone, a Texas Ranger from Houston, is working undercover as a cowhand to investigate cattle rustling. Now on vacation at Christmas time, Jake is forced off the road after being shot. Jake regains consciousness in the middle of the hot desert unable to see anything, including his truck, before again passing out. Visions float before Jake's eyes of a tiny, beautiful woman with long, golden hair.

Saloon girls Rebecca Swanson and her friend, Kitty, are nursing Jake back to health. The surroundings seem to indicate a religious sect, but eventually Jake believes he has passed through a time portal to the 1800s, even though his sensibilities deny it. As he recovers, Jake is stuck in the worst era known in Texas history for corruption and brutality. Is changing history his destiny? The last thing he now needs is to fall in love with a woman from 1877.

I found this to be a fun read with a handsome hero and absolutely delightful young woman. There are some twists as Jake works his way through the confusing events that parallel his two worlds. This was a short, but complete, story with a surprisingly blunt ending. I was expecting more to the finish line.
